We are now on the other side of eclipse season, and many around the world are facing profound challenges. My heart breaks for the people of Nepal and Tibet, as thousands remain unaccounted for.
Many astrologers have looked to the eclipses as a partial explanation for the timing of the flash flood. Such analysis can be helpful, yet it can feel futile in the aftermath of such a tragedy. As such, I am choosing to send loving light to all those affected while looking ahead to new possibilities.
As I write this, we are about 28 hours away from a Jupiter/Leo-Saturn/Aris trine. That is, these two celestial bodies will be 120° apart in the zodiac. They will do so two more times in their respective signs over the next 10 months.
With Jupiter moving into Leo this summer and Saturn into Aries this past spring, their alignment in these signs has not occurred since the summer of 1967. That summer was known as both the "Summer of Love" (think San Francisco and the Grateful Dead) and the "Long Hot Summer" (due to the rise in violent racial discrimination in cities across the country). While these events are often tied to the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of 1965-66, the Jupiter-Saturn fire trine added fuel to the seas of change, both positive and negative. The Summer of 1967 also saw the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American US Supreme Court justice, and a major escalation of US troop deployments in Vietnam.
While it's often helpful to look to historical periods with similar astrological signatures, it's worth remembering that history doesn't repeat; it rhymes. The coming weeks and months won't be carbon copies of 60 years ago, but they will likely echo the past.
Archetypally, Saturn is about authority, and Aries is about newness. So, to a certain extent, Saturn, sojourning through Aries, speaks to a new kind of authority. Saturn will remain there for another two years, so such shifts will be in play long after this summer. Its current alignment with playful and expansive Jupiter suggests creative ways to achieve these goals. It calls us to find inspired ways to express our authority and to discover playful ways to be disciplined and discerning.
In general, Jupiter expands whatever it comes into contact with. So Saturn and Aries, which can be very single-minded in how it expresses authority, can, when in communication with Jupiter, be over the top and attempt to command authority. But it doesn't have to play out negatively.
In your own life, look at how you can apply creativity when stepping into a place of authority and taking ownership of your sovereignty. Spend some time today and tomorrow reflecting on how you can add a lightness to doing so.
